New Coop....Updated pictures added today 4/19/2011

We used to have a bluebird house...then our cat kept killing the bluebirds. We didn't think that was fair to the birds. I was so sad.
My husband and son are working on setting up an area in the farrowing house for the ducks, we'll have to see how it goes. We are also converting an area that we've always farmed into pasture for chickens and possibly a cow sometime. I'll be sure to post pictures. I need to post some pictures of our ducks too, they are so much fun.

We got the Tin put on the Hen box and all the trim done. I just need to finish staining the trim. We also need to put in one more vent on the back. So wanted to work on the run yesterday. It was such a pretty day. Up until my DH was supposed to come home from work. Then it stormed. I don't think we are ever going to get the run done. Its like every time I think about it. It rains. Same thing happens If I think, hey Im going to go clean out and wash my Jeep. It will storm like crazy! Yep Im lucky like that.

Looking very very good. Just curious here.... What happens when it rains or hails.... Is the tin over the nest boxes going to sound like someone banging on a trash can...? from the inside of the nest box that is. Or does it really matter....

On Tuesday my neighbor called. She said her little girls class had hatched out some chicks and wanted to know if I would take one. I said sure. Our coop is done and all we need is to get it out of the garage and set up out side. We still need to get our run done. But it has stormed and rained so much. We just cant get it started. Well we got the chick Wednesday evening. Its so cute. Black with a yellow spot on its head. I hope its a dominique Hen!!! Name it little Diddle. (I think that is how you spell it lol) Then on Thursday evening. We started framing up the stilts, the coop will set on. We got it all level and ready for the coop to be set on. While my husband was working on it. I brought Diddle out side with us. She/He followed me around and every time I stopped. It would hop up on my foot. It was so cute. She goes crazy when she hears my voice.

I do think she might have a bad foot. Her little toes are slightly turned. So she walks on the side of them. I hope they straighten out. I did think later why did I only get one. She is all alone. So yesterday, my son and I made to trip to Tractor supply. We got feed and some shavings. They still has some red pullets. They were a week old like diddle. So I got one. I was told it was a Red Sex-Link. I hope so. (They also had some white leghorns. I wanted one but they were straight runs and I didn't want to end up with a rooster). So on the way home. We named her Abagail. Diddle was very happy to see Abagail! Hope to take some picture of them soon and post them. Maybe this will the week we get the run done. Thinking it will be a 10x12 and they will be able to go under the coop.

Well we finally got the coop set up out side. It was a job that would have taken 4 men to do. But DH and I got it loaded and unloaded all by our selves. I am happy to report that the local newspaper headline won't read " Local Couple Killed by Chicken Coop". I do think I will be so soar tomorrow!! I was so afraid we would drop it and it would land on us. I won't lie I am a weakling. A 50lbs bag of feed just about done me in at TSC saturday! LOL Any ways here are some new pictures!! Can't wait to get the run done!
