Looks great

Totally agree, and I love them! Good plan!

We have 2 vents on front, 2 on the back, and a long window on each end. They will all be covered in hardware cloth. We're new at this, so not sure how much venting is required in the winter here in Michigan, but I would think summertime we'll keep it well vented when the weather is good.

I'm sure once we've move the chickens out there, I'll be on here asking more questions about venting and temperature!

Right now our 2-week-old babies are enjoying their 85 degree brooder in the family room! It will be 75 here later this week, so I'm wondering if they can go on a little field trip outside (with lots of supervision!). I'm afraid they are getting bored!

I'm in the same boat as you! New to chickens and live in Michigan

From what I've been reading, venting is very important in winter so that the moisture doesn't build up in the coop leading to frost bite problems. Sounds like the birds do alright with the cold as long as it's dry and not drafty right on them. We're going to try leaving our highest vents open (which happen to be the rafters) year round and then the additional side vents open in the summer just like you. Should be fun!

And isn't this weather great?!! I think we may do the same fields trip here later in the week with our little tykes.
