KDK1, your 'chicken stool' looks great! Have you noticed a reduction in wasted feed?
Waste is one of my primary missions in feeding my birds. As far as I can tell there is zero waste with this set-up, and I check it quite often. When I had it closer to the ground, (and they had sure footing on the floor of the coop) they would flick out some but not a lot. Since I raised it I haven't noticed any flicking going on. I spy on them a lot with the coop-cam.

That's great, KDK1! I've been searching for a workable solution to the wasted feed problem and am going to try your design. Thank you for posting the details (especially the angle for the cut).

Cluk lik a duk, I found your post in my search for a solution to the wasted feed problem. We have an open air coop; the girls are positioned so they can't get wet, nor can their hanging feeder. However, if there is feed on the ground, it often gets wet and the entire coop smells terrible. Flies love damp chicken feed. With cooler weather on the way, I'm also concerned about mice.
