New Coop

I'm sorry, I re-read one of the post, this time with open eyes. There is a door in front of the pen and another on the coop side facing the garden. There is a little chicken door for the chickens to come in and out of the coop but will have to use the regular door to leave the pen.

Hello,
I am getting; 4 Americanas, 2 Delaware, 2 black Jersey Giants, and 2 Barred Rock. As with my vegetable starters, I always start more in case one or two plants don't make it I'll have plenty left over. This is part of my thinking to start with 10 layers. The rub is that usually all my plants make it and I end up with too many. I have plans for the extra eggs which I know I'll get, my goal is to keep all my chickens healthy and safe. I bought a selection to see who does what and how well. The Americanas are Martha Stewarts fault, I've been looking at those little pastel eggs she uses for years and they are for me. I sell my bees honey at work, maybe they'll ask for my chickens eggs also. We'll see. Can't hardly wait.

Fresh farm eggs are a great seller at a decent price. About $2.50 a dozen or $3.25 for 18 eggs. They taste so much better than store bought eggs! Chickens are very addicting!

Hopefully tomorrow I will be getting my first EE!!! (Eventually I would like a trio or quad with 2-3 Hens and 1 Rooster) I found someone that want to trade an EE hen for one of my sex link hens and also wants to purchase the 2nd one! I can wait for Green or other color eggs!

How exciting! I like growing my own food and since eggs are such a big part of my cooking and baking how could you not. I also sell my produce at our local farmers market, good brown eggs sell fast. The recent contamination of (and probably on-going) of commercial egg production really pushed me into this. My eggs won't be any cheaper but they'll be healthier, less junk they feed those poor overly used, abused chickens expected to live their lives on wire, no sun, no fresh air. My chickens will live the high life, and I will enjoy many excellent home grown eggs.
