new coop

I have the same set up for six standard hens. We made the hen house one foot deeper then the plans called for. We also altered the wall with the egg door--the whole wall is hinged to open up for easy cleaning. I also put lino tiles on the floor...of course in a checker board pattern! We really like our coop. I think you will be happy!

I also have one like that conned my dad into building it last summer for me, Larger than the original plans has a window and flower box on one end, In the winter I also conned my dad into putting plywood on the hardware clothes so basically it all turns into a coop in the winter with an apartment,

Love the coop! That is what I would love beside my garden for my silkies next summer!
I just use a bucket with a handle for a waterer. It never gets full of shavings and I put a hook up to hold it in place against the wall by the handle so they can't tip it over. I find waterers a real pain in the butt to be honest...buckets are much easier to fill and clean:>)

We found a guy on Craig's list to build this coop. We're in Portland Oregon. He delivers too. He even took our fence down to get it in the backyard and he put it back too! He's a pro carpenter and great to work with. The coop has a window on the right too--just needs a window box under it. If there's anyone in P-town who wants his name, let me know.

It's always amazing to me how smart chickens are! Our little sebright, Nelly, figured out so quickly where to go lay an egg in the new coop.

Here are our newest members: a black cochin, and a golden-laced wyandotte.

Here's a photo of the coop from another angle. Just because I know I like to see what people are doing for coops. Notice the "howdy" gate we added to introduce the new to the old. Hope it works--one of our one year old hens is pretty feisty.

I'm trying to decide on paint colors for the coop--I now seem to have a bit more time since it's started raining...again! Send me pictures with cool paint schemes or let me know if anyone has an idea. Thanks!

I love the coop!! If I get chickens some day I would love one like that. I like natural colors. Or you could go with the red with white trim which I think looks nice too.
