I am personally sensitive to soybean. Was revealed in food allergy testing. So I really wish to find a soy free pellet. I'm also sensitive to egg, but only the egg white. Egg yolk I'm fine. This is why I really liked NCO, was soy free, but I am now turned off by their product and cannot possibly go back to it after what it's done to 4 of my hens in the past few months. Still struggling to get one out of the woods. Gave 3mls of Nystatin today. Will see if this helps. Gave her a round of antibiotics prior because she was initially very warm. Now her temp feels normal, as of yesterday and today she looks a more perky, so good time to start some Nystatin. Shew....sick chickens give me high anxiety!!!

What is wrong with this one chicken right now?
Have you even had disease of any kind run it's course through your flock?

Sunrise looked good, in VA, but it's a mash/grain feed. The Organic Stock Feed is an Australian company, didn't see where you can buy it, and Modesto is pricey feed to get it shipped here. Think it was 70 bucks a bag and that's too high long term.

I just called Nature's Best because I saw there was a soy-free pellet, she said it's just out and it is being distributed, she just didn't know where I might find it because the sales team has gone for the day. So I'll call them tomorrow. Saw another one Nature's Grown Organics, looks very good, but only mid-west. Thank you for the suggestions.

Feel free to use my Google sheet to look for more soy free feeds...I only pulled a couple of them off for you.

Nature's best soy free is available through Southern States dealers & must be ordered through them. I contacted 2 near me in April when it first came out & they didn't know anything about it. Try calling if you have one near you. Hopefully they will be able to get it for you by now.

NCO just announced they'll be offering pellets next month. I spoke to someone there, and he said the pellets are coming out of Texas but the grain feed they sell in Virginia is all milled in Virginia. So if you're getting bad bags, you may want to check the source. If they were from a coop or local retail store, it's possible they sat for awhile or got wet.

I admit I've only gone through 2 bags of the NCO soy and corn-free grower feed to date, but I bought them directly from the NCO store in Waynesboro. It smelled and looked fine to me. Yes the peas were yellow ones but there weren't excessive shells or anything yuck. My chickens so far seem happy with it. They're growing like weeds and they waste very little. I feed it dry and fermented.

If chickens pick out what they don't like and only eat the good stuff, is it possible they developed vitamin deficiencies and that caused the sour crops - rather than the food? In which case, switching to a pellet or crumble could help?

I'm new around here, and I'd like to give my chickens the best possible. If you find another corn and soy free food that won't cost $100 to ship to Virginia, I'd be very interested to hear.

No, not really. Just a little poopy butt here and there. Few years ago a hen got sick and I took it to the vet. Had to give it shots of penicillin and tylan in the water. But that's about it.
