My Coop
My Coop
This is the new coup we built. Suburban neighborhood. Attached to back wall of our shed. 4x8x8 coup and 7x19 run. Covered the entire coup in 1/2 wire cloth. Floor and 1.5 sides and roof covered in clear plastic roof panels. Door and 1 side just wire cloth to allow ventilation. Cover floor in 3 inch pine shavings. Poop board with PDZ. Run is closed in regular chicken wire ground is oak leaves, dirt, and pine shavings. All we need to finish is the nest boxes. Planning outside accessible nest boxes. Planning to keep 5 chickens. We are in Florida so don't have to worry about cold really. Hoping the clear roof panels will allow more light than a closed coup.

really cute! :) :) make sure of having round roost (not squared cause they aren't good for their feet) in the night area! Have you fenced the run?

Chickens lay down when roosting/sleeping and their feet are flat. They don’t “grip” like other birds.

Don't know why this gets passed around like truth - they can grip with their feet and have no issue sleeping that way. A flat roost is fine and so is a round one. The location and material of the roost matters more to chickens than the flatness/roundness of the roost.
