NEW DEVLPMNTS/ PLEASE HELP! Weird Stevey Wonder head movement?

Quote:
They are on a general poultry vitamin supplement that I get at the feed store for 2.50 a bag. It does include vitamin E in it though.

The incoming chicks are vaccinated for Merrick's and cocci.

Why keep the chicks seperated? Do you think they will catch something from the vaccines???

I am asking about the vitamins because sometimes ppl mistakenly think electrolytes/vitamins are ok to give theri birds when actually you should only give an electroyte mix in specific situations...please look on that bag and see if it says ELECTRYOLYTE/vitamins...

If you are getting vaccinated birds (mareks) then they will shed the virus and the risk is there that your UNvaccinated birds will become ill. You will also need to ensure any birds you get in the future are vaccinated and also inform folks who are buying from you that this is vaccinated stock .

OK, I just checked and it i svitamins and eloctrolytes mixed?!?!?!?!? What does that mean? Have I been harming my birds???

Secondly, woul dthe offspring of vaccinated birds also be affected by the vaccine?

Third, and MOST IMP, I just checked on my bird and now it is having trouble walking. Not b/c it is losing weight or weak but b/c it's balance is off. Please tell me someone knows what is wrong! Is it b/c of th eeloctrolytes? Is it b/c of malabsorption???

P.s. DLHunicorn, when I ask questions it is b/c I just want to know the why to things not b/c I don't agree with your advise. I really appreciate all of the help you have given me over the past year so please don't take my inquisitiveness as rude :)

I am sorry, but does anyone know what's wrong??? She's around 9 weeks old. She always had the head shake delimma. I checked to see if it was just hair in her eyes but it's not. She will start to walk and then topple over or roll over b/c of loss of balance. I am partial to her and want to help her. SHe is also not eating as much today. She is drinking really well though.

Sorry, it's hard to say what is wrong. I don't really know, and seems like nobody else knows either. Could she have gotten bumped on the head and now have brain damage? Some brids like silkies with crests have vaulted skulls thus in effect, have holes in their skulls where their brain could be very easily damaged. At this point, since we can only speculate over a board, might be time to get a vet, although, it is not easy to find one who values chickens. Good luck.

I don't know if she got bumped in the head. I was hoping that since she was displaying some new symptoms someone might know what's wrong. If she was hit on the head, could she recover and just be a little dopey do you think?

I've hatched chickens before that were blind in one eye and they would do the Stevie Wonder head movements.

Check to see if it can see out of both eyes.

The reason dl mentioned the electrolytes is because it is toxic if given when not necessary. The sodium content in extremes when unnecessary cause an overload on birds. Change to fresh water and give it a day or two to see if you notice improvement. Hopefully dl will be back to respond further.
