okay, wait, maybe i have it backwards!!!!!!! lol! but i'll look inside mine. here's what i know...i have the top package. it has a back up on it. the thermostat is electronic and i believe the backup is a wafer.

Right, your has an electronic primary with a wafer backup. I thought about getting the electronic primary but didn't. I did however make sure that I could upgrade to it without having to send the unit back. Maybe I will someday but so far the wafer is working really well!!

End of day #1 and no need to open the incubator. Temp is holding very steady at 99.9 and the humidity is a steady 56%, so all is well I suppose.

End of day two and nothing exciting to report. Again, no need to open the incubator. The temp is steady and humidity is holding at 54%. If it's still good at 6 in the morning I'll leave it for the day, but tomorrow night at 6 pm I will open it and fill the humidity trays regardless of the reading.
If I could change anything about the Dickey incubator it would be to make the window larger so that I could see the water trays.
Today I went to a poultry auction that was being held at the Harding Game Fowl farm which is located outside of Inola Oklahoma. You would not believe the incubator I saw there, it was AWESOME! It holds 58,000 quail eggs at one time and that's just in half of it. The other half is the hatcher were they move the eggs for hatching. The owner gave me the tour and told me that all he has to do is put the eggs in and flip the switch, nothing more until he moves them to the hatching trays. It's very automated for temp and humidity.

Today I bought a new thermometer made by Geratherm. Wallgreens has them for about 6 dollars. These are the new therms that took over where mercury left off. The company claims they are accurate to within .1 degree. I have this in the incubator now to check the electronic one that came with the bator. I've already checked it's humidity reading using a calibrated electronic unit that I already had, it's dead on. We'll see how accurate the temp is tomorrow.

definantly keep us updated, i havent read all your posts but just curious, are you going to candle? if so let us know how it goes.

let us know about the mercury-less thermometer! i've heard that they were better to use, but regarding its accuracy I've heard many different reports... keep us posted!! (Thanks!!)
