End of day #9.

No changes, no worries. Put the Lacey Roundhead and Pinnon Grey eggs in the incubator in tray #2.

So far the biggest difference between the previous incubator and this new Dickey is that I'm not having to check on the incubator very often at all. The Dickey is a dream to use, very stable!!

End of day #12 and once again nothing new to report. No temp spikes, not humidity problems, nothing at all. This Dickey incubator just makes this whole hatching thing very uneventful, which is a good thing

End of day #15 and all is well with the 48 bantam eggs. I did a second candling on the 8th, right on schedule but I didn't do them all because I worry that they will start to cool off. So, just a random sampling will have to do... and do it did

All of them that I checked were doing just fine.

I did have a mishap with the second set of LF gamefowl eggs however. I candled them and accidently dropped one just a little on top of another and caused a slight crack in the top of the shell. I've now candled that egg for two days running and it seems fine. I can see the chick moving and I see no sign of anything wrong with it. So, I'm going to let it ride and see what happens.

When you drop an egg and get a small dent or crack you can use Elmer's Glue to seal it. Just put a small thin film of it on the egg. Keep the egg from drying out.

End of Day #17

Everything is looking great and tomorrow is "D" day! I'll move all 48 bantam eggs to the hatcher tomorrow. Yippee!! It's almost peeper time!!

Spoke with Mr. Dickey, maker of the Dickey Incubator and he explained to me how to handle the humidity. I'll still have eggs that are incubating while these 48 are hatching, so I'll need to mist the eggs twice a day with warm water while they are in the hatching tray.

OK, I need some help from you other Dickey incubator owners that may be watching this thread please. I just moved the 47 bantam eggs (BB Red egg #1 didn't make it) to the bottom hatching tray, and the 11 eggs that are still incubating to the top tray.

I used a spray bottle and misted the the eggs in the hatching tray, checked to make sure the water trays in top were full, then shut the incubator back up and turned it on. It's been over an hour now and I've been watching the temp and humidity on the THR158 and to my surprise the humidity is staying where it has always been, around 55%.

I thought after spraying the eggs in the hatcher I would see the humidity jump up a lot higher than normal. Is that not the case? Does yours also stay relatively stable after misting??

I'm interested in this answer since I always wondered how to up humidity in the hatching tray on bottom while the rest stays stable. I've been looking at the Ova-Easy by Brinsea and had the same question.
