I'm not new to keeping doves, but it has been over 15 years since I've had any. I picked up a beautiful pair of rose breasted, apricot (tangerine\orange\pick your flavor), ring neck doves yesterday.
The 'aviary' they were in was pretty filthy, and the guy didn't seem super pet savy. (Though he was super nice and seemed like he was trying very hard). He was 'marking' his birds tails with good ol Rust-Oleum spray paint for id purposes. Anyway... The aviary was tucked away in a dark garage with only artificial light.
Brought them home, put them in their temporary new home, until I can be sure they are healthy. It's a big parrot cage with plenty of room for them to fly and stretch. It's situated on my screen porch where the cage gets half sun\half shade throughout the day. Not as big as an aviary, but it will do for now.
My question is... They have not moved from the spot I put them in. The have literally just sat on the same perch, in the same position for almost 24 hours. They haven't touched their water or seed (from what I've seen), and they haven't made a sound... Is this normal adjustment behavior?
They are looking around and seem alert, just 'frozen' in one spot.
Also the pied, seems to be missing feathers on it's crop. Any ideas?
