I have three ducks that I know are females that hatched 11/30/202 and three ducks I’m pretty sure are females that hatched 02/01/2021. I recently added a drake, I believe the guy said he’s 2 years old. I have no idea what his living arrangements were before I got him but the seller had too many drakes and not enough females and he’d been having some predator issues and lost a few girls that way.
The older girls in my flock are fine with the new guy but the younger girls not so much. They avoid him like the plague and now they’ve formed two separate flocks. Is this about the age difference, the younger girls not being ready for mating? He’s pretty aggressive with the advances and now my youngsters are looking a bit rough about the neck and the back of their heads. They’re bigger than him, I wish they’d just give him a good stomp and be done with it!
I’m beginning to think about separating them but haven’t decided whether to sequester him at night or the younger girls to the small coop at night until they’re older.

My go to answer to all things drake is - Use search tab - advanced search - enter 'drakes' and 'jerks'.
You don't say what kind of ducks you have so I can only speak from my Muscovy experience. I have 2 drakes and 8 females. Everyone get along until mating season when I separate them into two flocks that don't interact. Even then the females can look pretty rough.
My suggestion is that the younger females are kept separately at all times until they are older.

Drake and jerk are the key words huh? Got it 😄
I was thinking that might be the best idea. I’ll have to think about how I can accomplish that. Thanks for your suggestion.

The three older girls are Runners and roughly five months. The youngsters are White Layers and roughly three months. The drake is a Swedish Blue/black Runner mix.
