I have been helping my brother with his 3 ducks ever since we brought them home, when we were both in High School. We got them when they we less then 24 hours old and now they are 6-years-old. The kind of ducks we have a supposedly rare, we have Welsh Harlequins Ducks. What I love the most about having ducks is the look on people's faces when I say I have 3 pet ducks and a guinea pig. My family has been using BYC ever since we got them, it has been so helpful.

The only ducks I've ever had(?) was two drakes and a hen Mallards. Years ago they used to come to the side door and bang on it until I gave them treats. Had no idea what ducks ate but gave them little pieces of bread. I noticed they kept throwing them down. Then a light bulb went on in my brain and I brought a pan of water. Big difference. They dumped the bread in the water then gobbled it up happily.

They must have been molting because they just walked around no flying. The female however was curious. She would walk on the sill outside our picture window and look inside to to check things out. She stayed until the dog jumped up by the inside window and looked back at her.

They came back the next year minus one of the drakes. They would stay on our front lawn and the neighbors thought they were plastic. Um no. I can see how much pleasure ducks would bring to folks. Love their big, innocent eyes.
