I suppose that's true about mallards. I've never raised them so hopefully someone else can weigh in on that.

The rat story is horrible! So glad I don't have those here.

It seems as though the yellow one has doubled in size in less than a week. The black one has barely grown, should I be worried about either one?

Do you have a Tractor Supply in your area. I just bought a similar coop with an attached run. It was on sale for $199.

Then fencing off an area around if for them to be during the day. We don't have any raccoons or roaming dogs around here..

You don't have raccoons or roaming dogs? where do you live on an island? what about flying preds? hawks, owls everyone thinks they don't have these kinds of preds till they bring home the animals these kind of preds like to eat. And

There's that same coop here at rural king. I was going to get one of those but I figured a bigger one would be better to put a little pool in. I say we don't have predators because there's been this chicken roaming around the neighborhood for years...

Chickens are better at avoiding predators than ducks. Ducks are wonderful and adorable but utterly helpless.

I'm still deciding what I'm going to do for the pen. I have turned toward getting a small dog house and eventually adding a nesting box.. I have no idea how to make a run though.

There's lots of cool ideas. Just google. We actually used PVC and wire for my chicken run. It's light weight and easily moved which is critical with ducks It's attached to my coop with screws but very easy to detach and move around. My coop is on skids, too.
