New Duck Question

Hello,

I currently have 2 welsh harlequin ducks and 1 KC and they are great. A family friend of a friend of a friend got a female pekin duck as a covid project and well decided 8 months later they were done with ducks so we took her in. She is sweet as can be but my other ducks are currently not a fan of her and they run away from her almost liek they are not letting her lay with them and join the flock. Its been 2 days and im wondering will this improve over time?

The next question i have is she is very noisy and i mean like you can hear her down the street and my current ducks barely make any noise. This is a concern because i dont want to be rude to my neighbors. Has anyone had this issue before and has the duck calmed down and become less noisy over time?

Okay, so first, when i added my rescue Muscovy duck to the rest of my ducks, they acted the same way. It's normal. She's new. They'll get used to each other over time. As long as there's no fights or anything, it'll be fine!

Secondly, yes, Pekins are very loud. That's normal too!

It takes time for introductions. Just like with humans, a new duck in a strange place with nothing familiar is scared and alone which is more then likely why she is being loud. With your flock think of it like someone trying to force someone new into your friend group without anyone having any choice. It's awkward, weird, unfamiliar, strange and takes time for those bonds to form.

One other thing, the previous owner must have been very very hands on with her. My current ducks do the whole (lay down with their butts up) to each other and the new pekin does it to me all the time. When i let them out into the yard she seems to just wanna hang out with me and not the other ducks. Will she eventually imprint on the other ducks and not so much humans ?

If she was the sole duck there is a very good chance she was imprinted on the previous owner. Eventually she will integrate with the other flock if you are not handling her a lot. It takes time, but she should eventually calm down.

Eventually, yes. It'll take time and patients.

We have three Pekins -- a drake that chatters away sotto voce all day; a female that occasionally quacks when excited; and a very noisy little crested duck. Yes the neighbors all know Mop Head. Fortunately, she is such a little charmer (or minx depending on who she is seducing) that we don't have neighbor problems. Giving away occasional half dozen duck eggs helps to keep neighbors sweet! The recording was at 6am last week. she quieted down after she was fed. My view is she is giving us an egg everyday so she needs feeding when she is hungry
