Pure Muscovy Drake

Here are some seven week old muscovies that I just took a picture of. Note the undeveloped wings.

Here is a picture of a twelve week old drake with a 15 week hen. Drake is out front and to the right and the female is to the left slightly behind. Note the full feathering.

well, I had to put him in the coop last night, but he came out on his own this morning OK. My daughter came to visit and dubbed him James Bond. Poor little guy is trying to make friends with the chickens, but they just won't have anything to do with him. He seems to be doing fine though. thanks to everyone for helping to identify him.

One last question on the Muscovy breed. I understand that the offspring of a Muscovy crossed wtih another duck are sterile. Would a female offspring of the pairing still lay normal eggs though?

She would lay eggs, but they will only be good for eating as they would be infertile.

It could be a muscovy mixed with a pekin, the hybrids are unusually large. I can sex muscovys from a few days old because the feet on the males are larger.

Its hard to tell from the pics but this could be a female cause the feet arent that large. At this stage in development a male usually looks like a gawky teenager with feet too big for his body.

Here is a picture of one of our muscovy x pekin hybrids - they usually only get the red just around the bill edge like yours has. Juveniles have that too usually.

do the muscovy peking cross quack? This duck is making a noise I would call trilling. I would love it is a girl and also if the red stayed just around the bill. I will update when its older and hopefully it will be easier to identify.
