So..as some of you might know, we were debating on getting another Cayuga or a Pekin duckling. Well, we got our 3rd baby and we decided on a Pekin. We put the new one in with the other two and our Cayuga, Olive, just started picking on her! Pickles, our Rouen, is more than fine with her. I can tell Mooshoo, the Pekin, is a bit stressed and unnerved at being taken away from her "cage" family at the feed store. I was just wondering if that was a normal thing....the little brawls here and there. Of course, I took it personally because Mooshoo is *my* baby (as is Pickles)...and I didn't want to see her get hurt.

Oh...& we found out that they sell a variety of sexes! LOL So we don't even know what sex our babies are!! We're pretty much gonna cross our fingers and pray for eggs. LOL

She should settle in just fine...soon enough they will be inseperable. Just go with the flow.....ducklings are pretty robust

Thanks so much treldib! As a first time deck dad I hope you forgive my paranoia & constant worry! LOL I'll probably be less of a worry wort when they're a little bigger.

Pickles and Olive did have their first outside adventure today! About 15 minutes of following me around the yard. It was pretty cute. I was really curious to see if they would do that follow-the-leader thing with us and they sure did! As I type this things have already settled down in the duckling abode ...whew!

Just curious, what is the age difference between them? The "picking" or pecking is normal...they're figuring out their place in the family, dominance, etc...that's why they call it the pecking order! lol Congrats on your new babies!

I *know* our Cayuga has to be older than all of them, not just that it's twice the size, but she/he is getting little pricklies on its tail and some just here and there all over, while the Rouen and Pekin are still downy. The Pekin is only slightly bigger than the Rouen. I've been trying to look at pics but i can't seem to find any age progression threads anywhere so I could get an idea of how old they are. I guess that's the downfall of getting them from a feed store, eh?

I went on a search for a good local farm but didn't really find any around my area....just so I would *really* know alot about how they were raised/hatched and stuff, but oh well! I love them all to death and they seem to feel the same about me. Hehe! Well..Except for Olive the Cayuga...she seems to be going thru a bit of a "terrible twos" stage.
