So when the duckling, DJ, from the giant egg that killed my duck Delilah didn’t make it, my wife and I were working on putting away all the stuff we got for him. A brooder, bedding, heat lamp, duckling crumble, etc

Then a friend posted on Facebook about the humane society having orphaned Muscovy ducklings who’s mother had been killed. They were about 2 weeks old

So wife and I figured, we have all the stuff we need for ducklings so let’s take 2 in

Pics of them. Month ago when we got them. And today. They still love to sit on my desk as I work and rest against my arm. They will chirp and bite at my shirt til I put my arm down

I’ve only raised 4 ducks from ducklings before. And while they were affectionate as ducks are, these two are like little puppies. Love being held and love being pet.

How precious! Congrats on the new additions to your family.

Yes, Muscovy are very special, aren't they? :love
They are! Lil JP is so sweet and gentle. Pretty sure he is a boy and Sascha is a girl. She’s snuggly but a little feisty. But JP just wants to be held and pet every second of the day. He really acts more like a puppy than a duck heh

I bet they don't bite like puppies!!

I also raised an orphan muscovy who loved to sit on my desk between me and my laptop. He was obsessed with trying to peck off the 4 microsoft boxes on a key to the bottom left of my keyboard!!

How precious and Congrats on your new additions. You have them pegged right Muscovy are so sweet and affectionate I love them to bits. My drake loves for me to scratch his back.
JP who I think is male, is the more affectionate. Loves to be held and to snuggle up and if you softy pet his cheek right behind the bill, he will fall asleep

Sascha is a little more feisty but if you scratch chest she will rear back so you can pet her stomach. And when she wants to be held she will bite at my arm til I pay her attention

All the muscovies I have I got as adults that had been dumped somewhere so they are a bit leery. But these two are sweet as can be

I'm so glad you have rescued these Muscovy they are such great ducks and it breaks my heart they are treated so badly by many.
All of mine except my drake have been raised by mama ducks so even though the females will eat out of my hand they don't like to be touched. My drake I have is 11 yrs old is my baby boy I got to raise him since his mama refused to. He is such a softy except when hormones are at their peak then he isn't such a nice boy but I love him so much I just let him get through the worst because I know he'll be his old self again soon. Just a reminder when next year comes you may have a problem child on your hands once hormones start but hang in there with him.

that was my concern. We took in a Muscovy drake who was really not well adjusted and kept vying for dominance in the pen from my other males. Wound up killing a female while trying to mate her.

But I’ve taken them out to the pen a few times and supervised introducing them to the flock. All are cool with them except one female Muscovy who I’m convinced thinks she is a dinosaur. So hoping him “growing up” in the flock will reign him in a bit with any dominance behavior if not we can separate for a bit til he calms down

That is sad one female was killed. My drake only mates with his Muscovy females pays no mind to the Runner Buff females. He does not like my female goose and hated my gander boy they could get into some humdinger of fights and I'd have to keep them separated until hormones slowed down. But Opie is hateful to me when hormones are at their peak I have to get after him alot . He still loves me though and I love him. Now when my dh goes into their property Opie starts biting him right away, I think he sees my dh as a rival lol
