New Ducks Not Eating?

I think we will have a pretty safe coop, but of course they won't be cooped 24/7 so I hope there isn't any dogs tunneling under our fence or anything. They will be mostly protected at night when they are in their coop. Free range during the day.

That's the way mine are kept they have half acre fenced in to forage in daily and locked up at night. You can go up to search and type in duck housing and find all kinds of pics some really safe and well made others not so much. But the better you build the safer your ducks will be. Glad to hear you finally got them put up for the night, look forward to seeing your coop when finished, be sure to share pics and also pics of your new ducks.

I had LOT of predator problems last year, so we had to learn this the hard way. Raccoons were the worst. We had an owl figure out that they could take ducks though the open side of a three sided pen last year too- waited up one night and watched it almost happen for a third night in a row, but we scared it off in time that third time.

Ducks have to be protected especially at night on all sides, and the top. During the day, they can't outrun stuff then either so it's best to keep them confined where you can see them, just in case chaos goes down.

They will be protected on all sides, top and bottom =)

I do not doubt that for one second. Do you have plans yet for houses? Ducks can live in simple accommodations I think compared to what chickens need. So long as it's sturdy and shut on all sides at night.

I am just making it a simple house, with an eventual green roof added.

This will be our first building project so nothing too fancy!

Thanks, it will give extra garden space and keep them cooler in summer and warmer in winter!
