Our Starlight Green Egger started laying last week at 17 weeks. The olive green egg with large white spots was her first egg and every subsequent egg has been like these other two with tiny white speckles. You can wipe the tiny white spots away and its the same olive green underneath, but the white comes right back.

Are the white spots just excess calcium? Or are these just the color egg she will always lay? She's on day 7 of identical eggs.

Speckles on the egg are extra calcium deposits. Pullets that first begin laying tend to have many egg quality glitches, and even though speckles are not really a glitch, they dont always remain the same. Meaning that over time the eggs may still get speckles every now and then, but unlike egg color, its not really set. Egg color will also change in tint over time as well. It may take awhile for her to start laying consistent eggs.

Those are more like splotches than speckels...kinda cool looking.

Are the white spots rough or smooth?
What are the gray eggs in the pic?

I try not to wash an egg to keep it's original beauty (unless it is dirty.) You can wash the dark off a BCM egg also, but why would you?

They are eggs from the same chicken, the lighter ones are just so covered in small white dots that you can barely see the green peeking through. The large white splotches are raised a little and I assumed calcium build up, but the small ones are smooth.

Her egg laid yesterday was solid green, I guess she's just getting the kinks worked out:confused:
