Picked up an electronic thermostat yesterday. It has the option of 1 degree temperature differencial meaning that it will control the temperature to within 1 degree. Installed it and tested, it works as advertized and since it has a 'thermocouple' type temperature sensor it will never get out of calibration. It comes with an 8 foot sensor wire but can be legthened up to 500 feet.

I hope it works well for ya but OUCH. The Reptitherms run in the 20's and 30's and are generally successful within .5 degrees.

And I don't even buy the reptitherms because my bators swing .5 to .8 on a regular water heater thermostat - $8.00. Next month I'm buying a Reptitherm because by then I think I can.

If I were building a cabinet bator I'd look at the better Reptile electronic thermostats, there are some amazingly nice ones. But when I start going that high - that's my money for the Dickey I want.

Which is why I'm building cheapo bators in the first place. Each hatch and sale bringing me a tiny bit closer to the goal, a Dickey.

Good luck with the bator...

My feeble eyes can not tell from your picture what the brand name is. Also curious about how to get more info on it. Thanks

Jim

Brand name is Ranco. Model # is ETC111000. Ranco is a big manf. of refrigeration controls for ages. Don't know if it's a good deal as I'm new to this game, but I do know they make a quality product and the thermocouple type sensor are extreamly accurate and will not lose calibration. At any given temperature there will always be at a given resistance and the control acts on it. I've read here about people having to have their thermostats calibrated or them being incorrect and I didn't want to chance that.

Ken H;

Found the website, and bookmarked it. Looks very interesting. Might be a little spendy for the small cooler-bators, but if a fellow was working on a large fridge model, or rebuilding an old wooden one, it would be worth considering.Thanks for the info!
