New emu parents, and current peacock and chicken owners say Hi

Thank you, I always wondered about Emus Where do you live Samantha?
I live in Dorset, England :)
This is our first time with Emus, but having met some adults when visiting a poultry farm nearby, we couldn't resist! Even though we have a decent sized paddock, its still only room for 1 pair, so once we've had our chicks sexed we'll have to sell one ;(

I have been to London, I love that beautiful country, but I belong here in the USA. (God save the monarchy) comes to mind. And thank you

Welcome to BYC. Some years ago Emus were the "Big thing," among Bycers, seemed like everyone was getting them. They aren't for everyone, their size alone can make them dangerous unless they have been socialized from birth. I believe they aren't breeding age till about 3 yrs. old. The male sits on/hatches the eggs. Hey turnabout is fair play.

Then generally consider dogs to be predators and will trample them if give the chance. They aren't fond of chickens either.

BYC member Pyxis knows quite a bit about them. I consider her the emu go-to person. She even has some blond emus.

Yeah its so important to introduce them to the animals they're likely to meet while they're still young!

Its a shame when a large or difficult animal become fashionable... people don't do their research!
