New England 101

Yep, Harpoon is some good stuff (if very cold) and I am not a beer drinker.

Hot and humid this evening in Vermont. Lots of song birds are chirping and the no-see-ums are out! I have a family of Phoebe's that sing the evening away.

Just thinking of some other stuff as I was walking the dogs:

If I were to sell my house and get even a very modest 5% above what I paid for it, I could buy a freakin' mansion anyplace between here and California. In cash, probably. Houses are expensive here--it's frustrating when you're trying to buy your first house, but glorious when you sell it and move elsewhere.

Whale watching. We got some great whale watching, the boats go right up to the whales. Endangered ones come out to the harbor and the Cape, too, and they aren't scared of boats.

Maple syrup! Real maple syrup. On real blueberry pancakes. Mmmmmm.

In winter, sitting in front of a nice wood fire with a cup of a hot drink and a good book while someone else does the snowblowing. We get snow days from work here. I never had a snow day from work before, and then I moved to Massachusetts. Seriously, I get sent home due to snow about four times every winter. In that spirit, just about everyone drives a 4WD truck or a Subaru to cope with the weather.

Turkeys in the city. We have turkeys that live off the garbage and muffin crumbs outside of Starbucks in the cities. They chase yuppies and box them, they're very aggressive turkeys who like to scratch up the nicest cars. They were re-introduced by the game service.

As discerning as we are about beer, technology and education, we are surprisingly relaxed about things like religion, beer, and what goes on in other folks' bedrooms between consenting adults. Astonishingly, civilization has not collapsed.
