New Englanders! Much ado about New England!

I got my very first chicks today!! A splash Easter Egger, a Cochin, and an Easter Egger/Cochin mix! I'm so excited!
Good luck to you!

Can anyone recommend a reputable hatchery in Northwestern CT? I bought six red sex links in March as my first ever chickens from Tractor Supply. I'd like to add maybe two or three of different breeds next spring. I'm familiar with Cameron Family Farm in East Haddam but am wondering if there's anyone closer to where I live.

Thanks

I guess I'm confusing my terminology....I really would prefer a local breeder. A hatchery is more large scale???

This is more in the Storrs area - NE CT, but here are some links. http://ctpoultry.com/4.html

I met the owner of Burr Farms at the last CPA (CT Poultry Association) meeting, and he was very nice. The CPA members were mostly all small poultry farmers and were very knowledgeable. I was the hobbyist in their midst, but enjoyed listening to them discuss issues.

Then there is always Craig's list. I will have a few BCM chicks in a few weeks, once I can figure out what they are and how many I want to keep.

Good luck!

Have you considered going to the BOston show in the fall-- it is in North Oxford, MA, to find a breeder; or contact the secretary as the secretary knows everyone and might be able to connect you with a reputable breeder. I"m trying to remember the anme of the org that runs it : BOston ______ and there is the Northeast Bantam club with a secretary to contact also.

I do know Connecticut breeders /exhibitors that come to the N Oxford show.

THere is a BIG show in Spriingfield MA, not sure of the organizers, but again , contact the secretary.

You will need to know which breeds you are seriously interested in as most folk only breed 1-3 different chickens. If you are wanting more sexlinks and generally good layers, TSC or Meyers are a good place to buy.

Good luck.

Watermelon!

Thanks!! I just cut them up honey dew and Watermelon lol (theyre eating better than me) and I filled up their 2 gallon waterer with ice water and half with iced cubes, I wish I had an extension cord long enough to hook up a fan for em

i feel bad, their wings are hangin low and panting , maybe ill spray em with the hose on mist??

Yeah I just gave them some ice cubes too. Well, I figure that the major chicken hubs like Texas and Florida get waaaay worse, so they should be fine as long as they've got water and shade. A big orp hen has decided to go broody and is panting away in the nest box. I'm trying to persuade her that its not the greatest idea, and that she doesn't have any eggs underneath her anyways.
