Hah, Spook - today I broke down and finally got one of those $20 heated water bowls for dogs (BIG bowl! holds 5 qts...that's some dog!) that Tractor Supply sells. It'll probably be the best $20 I ever spent (except for my crock pot!)

Believe it or not, I can bet your absolutely right. Wed its supposed to get up into the 40s, at least that is what the weatherman is claiming. Of course this is New England and they may look at the weather on computer, but we know how it is, If you don't like the weather, wait a minute, it'll change.
I did get my email from you Chickn, Thank you for compiling all that info! Personally, this old hen doesn't fly to far from the coop when cold weather sets in, I sit on the perch, cackle and talk fowl language. Winter is just such a inconvenience.

Those dog bowls are a good idea. My husband bought some at Walmart last summer when they were on clearance.
They were in a cart by the front door where they put the stuff they really want to get rid of.
He bought two of them for $4.00 each.

I hibernated all weekend with this darn cold, except to go out and get some of the groceries I need for Thanksgiving.

My daughter just called from college and asked me to come and get her because of a problem in the city, my husband just went to get her.

She goes to school in Boston in the backbay and they have a blackout.
So far we have heard that 3 manholes have exploded.
I know its probably nothing but it still makes me very uneasy that anything exploded near where she lives. I have always worried about something happening in the city.
Her building is right across the street from the Public Gardens and she is right in the heart of everything, the Boston Commons, Newbury Street etc.
That whole part of the city is out and they have no heat, hot water or electricity. The school cafeteria can't operate and the T (subway) is shut down.
All the restaraunts in the area are also shut down and they can't get to any other places in another part of the city to eat because of the T being down.
All of the businesses in the area are shut down too.
All classes are obviously canceled and they are starting to move
the kids who cannot get home into hotels in the area.
Luckily alot of the kids who live out of state have gone home this past weekend for the holiday rather than wait until tomorrow night after the last classes.
I am wondering how long it will take for my husband to get her home since the traffic must be a nightmare without traffic lights and all that. Its hard enough(and dangerous in my opinion) to drive in Boston as it it.
So on the bright side I get two extra days with my daughter.
I just wish she wasn't cold and hungry right now.

It doesn't matter how old your children are does it? You always worry about them in this crazy world.

Oh my gosh, Natalie - I hadn't heard about Boston's problem...what caused the explosions, gas? Yikes, you must be concerned for your daughter and the ugly drive...I agree that even with the luxury of working lights, Boston traffic is to be avoided if at all possible...seems like it's all one-way's!
Hope you feel better soon and all have a great Thanksgiving. Good move, grocery shopping early!

I'm trying not to be green with envy (or in the smilie world, yellow)

- wow, getting those bowls for $4 each is incredible!

Could be back on, but they already evacuated the school and sent home everyone that was able to go home.
I guess they had no choice since they had no way to tell when things would be restored.
The school officials stated that they were originally told they would have things back possibly by 3:00pm but could not be guaranteed, then they said it could be later, so they sent everyone home.
I figure they were afraid that since they are responsible for feeding these kids and keeping them warm there would be complaints from parents who pay $40,000.00 a year to send their kids there and wanted to avoid any potential problems.
I don't know but I am glad that I have her home for an extra two days though.
I really enjoy spending time with her and the kids miss their big sister Ashleykate, she is a big goofball with them.
Brittany comes home from college tomorrow night and then we will all be together. I can't wait.
