Got poodle, what a hoot. I have almost been busted...today was asked how many broilers I'm going to get...arrrgh, I still managed to get away without actaully saying a number. Phew.

Bird people are bird people. There is just something different, mainly because you do not have total control of them, not even if in a fence. So to own them, first they must have a reason for them to own you....food and tastey treats!

Poodles DO rule, at least my 8 month old pup Lily rules my 12 year old golden/lab X Bentley. She's my first poodle, an apricot standard, adopted from petfinder.

Muzzie, what kind of poodle do you have?

gotpoodle, is yours a standard too? Those ears are so long and beautiful!

I'm letting Lily sit with me when I spend time with the chicks to get her used to the girls. I love my little fuzzbutz, and certainly don't want Lily to think they are a snack!

I'm wondering how many of you here in New England let your chickens free range vs. keeping them penned? I'm trying to decide the best way to do this; whether to pen off a nice section of yard for them to be safe, or let them free during the day and take a chance on safety with the assorted wildlife (and neighbor's dogs and cats) that we have in the area.
What did you base your decision on?

I'm getting my chicks today! We still need to build our coop, but have been pretty busy with a newborn babe. Hopefully we'll get that tackled this weekend...

We are getting some chicks from our local feed store and some from a local lady. My aunt is currently incubating 24 welsumer eggs, due to hatch next week.
