Ok, I love my job, what I do, who I work with, my hours etc... But here's the rub.. I work 2nd shift now (seems my bodies natural sleep schedule).. But I miss out on all kinds of stuff

To top it all off, I log on BYC on the hours everybody is going to bed

Had a chance to go to Bdubs to watch redwings with work friends, but hadn't seen my kids in a week so I came home instead. They said hi, and trucked off to bed.

I hope my megamillions hit.. I need a smile tonight..

Oh, wow... I have worked years on third shift and on second shift - years, I tell you. In the 9-1-1 Centers. I always pooh-poohed the day-shifters. And weekends off? Big freakin' deal. Everybody else is off then, places are too crowded with PEOPLE.

Well, the past 3 years I've worked days with weekends and holidays off and BOY was it an adjustment. Mornings are still a problem for me; there was a reason why I worked 2nd and 3rd shifts! But this evenings and weekends and holidays off thing? I more than "kinda" like it!

I don't even have any family. I am now sympathetic to those that work shift work - I know it can wreak havoc on one's home and social life. At least I can imagine so, anyway. Not having either, it's a bit of a stretch.

I worked that shift for a year. I was divorced with 3 children. I never saw them. I ended up in the big bosses office, a blubbering idiot, requesting a shift change to 10:00 to 6:00. It was the perfect shift for my situation.

I worked second and third shifts for about 3 years. I liked the extra 15% and doing errands during he day when crowds were small. Avoided a lot of traffic too. The weekends really sucked though. On Sunday night everyone would be going to bed while you're going to work after having been up all day. I often wondered how someone doing a job as a guard could stay awake. Also had a hard time sleeping during the day sometimes and I was always tired when I woke up.

Nice part was all the big wigs were never there. Not good shifts for anyone that has a life, unless your friends and relatives work the same shift.

I worked 3-11 and 11-7 for 5 years before I got the chance to move to 7-3. I missed out on so much with my family working those shifts, which is why I jumped on the chance to work 7-3. I still miss things on the weekends, since I only get one weekend off a month.

I love my job (9-1-1 dispatcher) but have been thinking of finding another line of work. After 7 years of it, it is really starting to wear on me.

DH worked shift work all of our marriage. His was rotating so it had the bad stretches and the decent stretches. Hard as Hades on him though switching shifts.

Then he got laid off. NO shift was way worse!

Now he has a really early day shift. 6 to 6 but he has to be in position at 6 AM which really means he has to leave the house at 430. An hour to get from the parking lot, through security to change up and walk to his unit used to be partially covered is no longer paid time. He used to be able to leave the gates at 6 but now he walks away from his position at 6 meaning he gets home at 730. Its a very long day. And he works Saturday through Wednesday.

I hate it. But, I never say so to DH. It is very hard on him and he misses ever having weekends off. He was very involved in the kids' lives but now he only sees them after school on Thursday and Friday but Friday they want to stay up and do things, he needs to get to bed. They're all excited its the weekend but it is Sunday night to him....

It's work. That's why they have to pay you to do it.
