Just a quick "howdy-do":

Brand new to this, I am frantically building a coop for the new chicks.

Of the 5 chicks I purchased April 30th at TSC, it looks like I have 2 hens and 3 roosters. I'll be keeping (tractor cooping) the hens, and relocating the roosters to a horse farm in the country where they can run and play in the fields -- an actual one! I swear! :D)

It's getting hot out, and they're getting... um... just a little big for the box in my living room any more! LOL

I'm one of you now! :D

I (and my cats ∑:x) have been having good fun with this whole endeavor, and can't wait for my yummy, healthy (and increasingly expensive - LOL ) eggs. :>
OK... You busted me... They are my relatively inexpensive back yard pets... that just happen to lay yummy, healthy (mmm) eggs.

I've been spending a lot of time here @BYC lately, and have gotten a lot of great information out of it. Than'X Y'all!!

However, I do still wonder about:

"Choice of light weight mobile coop siding material?"

Though the title is fairly self explanatory, If you have a moment, take a peek.

Take care and,

Thanks again!

Welcome to BYC!

Love your intro! Yes, you had better get going on the coop! My chicks hatched on April 30th as well and wow, I kicked them out of here last week, they were going nuts in here! LOL You are from Michigan? You might want to chat with your chicken neighbors on how they build their coops to survive your brutal winters and what they think of your materials for the coop....

If you have any specific questions while building your coop, you can ask in our Coop and Run Construction section as well for more help..

Good luck with the coop build and enjoy this new journey you are on. Welcome to our flock!

Thanks for the welcome and suggestions!

However, the "Michigan" thread is toast. Apparently Michiganders are surly, and can't get along? Not sure what that's about??

The "Coop and Run Construction" section is where I posted my question, and referenced that in my intro. Maybe I just titled it ambiguously. Because, no one seems to be choosing to read it, no one may be there to chime in?

I'm getting close to answering it myself. I like the challenge of free, so I was thinking I need to find someone trowing out old basement wall paneling and foam drop-ceiling tiles.
The idea being, to frame with 1x1s that I rip myself from old pressure treated fence planks (which I have), fill it in with foam blocks cut from the ceiling tiles for insulation, clad with 1/8th to 3/16ths inch wall paneling (inside & out), and cover it with enough paint or deck sealer to keep it water tight.
To bad I'm not likely to find "lock tight" paint
(what you seal concrete basements with) on the oops rack.

Oh yeah... and take lots of pics along the way to share. ;o)

One last note: You said that your chicks were GOING nuts... that's a pretty short trip isn't it? LOL (I mean "cluck-cluck") ;D

I'm surprised, the Michigan group always seemed to have a very nice group of people. I suppose it takes only one trouble maker to set anyone off tho. You might try to pm OPA from there, he is very knowledgeable and kind.

Welcome to BYC.
