Congrats! They are so cute! Those little fuzzy butts make me miss when my chicks where fuzzy butts and not in the ackward in between stage. Our feed store chicks aren't in yet so I have a few more weeks to wait and its so hard!!!

My DH doesn't know it yet but I plan on getting a lot of them when they get in!

Well I have some sad news, the silkie died last night. I think he got to. cold, it has been pretty warm at night here but last night it got down to 48

Sorry to hear about the silkie! It's very cold here right now so even though mine are in the house right now they are under a heat lamp.

well i am really dissapointed. I have lost half of my babies:2 cochins, silkie, the d' uccle, and a game.

Do you think the temp may be dropping too low overnight?

Maybe the heat lamp needs to be closer to them.

They definitely need supplemental heat. I believe their brooder needs to be around 100 degrees when they are very young. Then you gradually drop the temp each week. 48 overnight is definitely too low!
