Hello to everyone!! We are very proud new owners to of a flock of 18 Chickens!! This is our first time raising Chickens and have a lot to still learn. Unfortunately we have already had a death in the flock, one of our Chicks have an impacted crop. We tried everything in the book, but when we finally found the trick to dislodge the impaction, it was too late. Well now we know. We massaged this poor thing for three days and fed and watered it with a syringe, but she was just too weak to make it. So now we know if something isn't right to take swift action! But everybody else is doing great and I look forward to watching them grow and grow!!
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Hard learning curve that one. There are some great articles on raising chicks, dealing with diseases, coops and housing and more in the Learning Centre:
I am so sorry about the hen you lost. Impacted crops are hard on the birds. I like to do a crop check every morning before anybody eats or drinks so I can monitor the crops. But I am glad you are enjoying your birds!
Make yourself at home here on BYC Enjoy all your adventures and welcome to our flock!
