My husband and I, pretty much, have a zoo in our house. About 4 weeks ago, we added 6 day-old chicks to our family.

As of right now we have:
3 Golden Laced Wyandottes (Big Betsy, Thing 1, and Thing 2)
3 feather footed bantams (one dark brahma roo - Pato, one dark colored hen - Mini, and one white cochin hen - Ms. Butters)
3 ridiculously rambunctious cats (Charlie - 4 yrs, Mikie - 2 yrs, Ella - 10 mos)
2 insanely entertaining ferrets (Eddie - 5 yrs, Suzie - abt 3 yrs)
4 fish (2 bettas, a pleco, and one 5 yr old guppy)
last, but not least,
over 50 mice and 2 african soft furred rats.

whew!

I am a wildlife and domestic pet rescuer and I have a steadily changing flow of random boarders and rescues running through here too. We are super excited to have the chickies with us and they have been a blast so far! The cats are scared of them currently, hopefully that lasts. ;)

This forum has been a GREAT resource of information! Thanks for all the info and I hope to be able to share some of mine too.

Welcome to BYC, Juliann. Glad you decided join our flock. I've had all of the animals on your list (still have chickens and fish) except ferrets, but I always though it would be fun to have one or two. Hopefully down the road it will happen. :o) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your house zoo.

Juliann, very nice to meet you. Glad you joined the Byc flock. I have to ask just how big is a 5 year old guppie?

Good morning Juliann and welcome to BYC!

It sounds like you have a very entertaining houseful of animals! If you would like to 'meet' other members from Maryland, you can find them here:

Nice to have you join us and good luck with your chicks!

Thanks for the welcome! :-D

Michael, ferrets take a lot of specialized care, but make WONDERFUL pets for the right people. :-) They have taught and trained me well. ;-) I always recommend adoption (I'm a rescuer, it's in my nature lol) and a trip to a ferret rescue will be a great learning experience too. I love them all. :-) Feel free to ask questions!

Drumstick, they maxout growth, so he's a normal sized guppy. His colors are fading and he shows his age, but we are convinced that he's a mutant and is never going to die. :-) He has outlived all of his tank mates and hasn't showed signs of slowing down. Lol

Thanks for the thread, North! I was looking for it last night. :-) I actually grew up in Central Florida. :-) It's too hot down there for me, but I like going back to visit. :-)

:-D Mermaids, there is no money here. LOL! I want to move all the way out to Oregon and go to school for veterinary medicine. Been unemployed in Salisbury for over a year now... ugh! Our zoo is why we haven't just moved... got to take every precaution for our fur-feather-and-scale babies. ;-)
