(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We've had red layers many years ago, our first girls were hatched in a kindergarten and came home with me but when we moved interstate they went to a loving new family.
When we moved we scored some new girls off a neighbour who was moving themselves but unbeknownst to us at the time, there were foxes in the area.
Years on, we have invested in an Omlet Eglu set up so feel safe having chickens again.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Yesterday we managed to get 2 Frizzles from a friend of a friend. Their names are Kevin and Hei Hei. I don't know if they will lay yet. This person had them for a week and has lots of chicks at the moment so they needed rehoming. I'm hoping they are hens!
(3) What breeds do you have?
Frizzles
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Having these funny, fuzzy frizzles running around and hopefully eggs soon enough.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Well - I have a high schooler in her final year of school, a young adult daughter with a chronic illness that I'm a carer for so a lot of time is spent making sure my kids are looked after and have what they need to succeed. I try to read novels in between researching medical stuff. Love chilling with some Netflix, ice cream and a cup of tea. Prior to isolation I was training for the Inca Trail.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have ciclid fish, 2 cockatiels and 2 dogs - Tiki, a King Charles Cavalier and Charlie, a Maltese terrier who is totally in love with the new Frizzles
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC researching how I can tell the age and sex of Frizzles. So much good stuff on here I decided to join!
