Greetings all, Nick joining you from Canberra, Australia.
I've had chickens in my backyard from when I was about 4, up until about five years ago. Finally living in one place for a while, and in a rental where I can keep chickens again, I started building up a new flock a few months ago with a Welsummer and then a Plymouth Rock. I found this site when tring to work out which breeds might get along alright in the local climate, and have since been browsing repeatedly for clues as to the sex of the Plymouth Rock.

Apart from keeping chickens and ducks, I'm kept busy studying linguistics, canyoning, skiing, climbing and generally trying to find the most dangerous activities available to me. Any spare time in between gets taken up with cooking and helping my housemates to foster dogs from the local dog home.

Great to have you aboard and welcome to our flock!

G'day, Nick! Welcome to BYC. What better breed for your local climate than Black Australorps, which were developed in Australia? I have had many of them and they are hot and cold tolerant, calm and gentle, and great layers of large, brown eggs. Good luck with your flock.
