Hello I'm new here and new in the chicken world. I reside in Central Florida & like to research all about chickens before I go out & buy chickens.

You need to find a breed that lays well in the summer and maybe a breed that lays well in the winter. I currently just hatched some Leghorn chicks because they are prolific layers all year long. I also have Cuckoo Muran, Ameraucana and three juvenile Light Braham. Cuckoo Muran like the colder weather. I don't know much about the Brahams because this is my first time having them. Another good breed are the Naked neck chickens. The Naked neck chickens are all weather chickens and tough. They protect the flock as well.
