New from central NY

Hi I am new to this forum and chickens... We just built a tractor/coop and have 6 pullets and 1 cockerel of all different ages (4months- 4 wks) that aren't getting along yet!

We live in Central NY

from Orange! Birds that are too far apart in age don't mix well. It is said that birds that are no more than 2 weeks apart in age can be kept together but a few months can make things hard. There will be conflict. (Think about keeping a few toddlers and a few teens in the same room with no big power eforcement! (aka: you.) Eventually they will all get long and they sound like they're doing that right now but if there is bloodshed, you'll have to remove the injured bird until they are healed and then you can try to integrate them again. It's messy work and anything but easy. Ask questions if you need to! We're here to help!

When I integrate different age birds, I add my big old phoenix roo to the pen. He's very gentle, and seems to keep order. Kinda like a baby sitter.
