(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes, I was given my chickens June of 2018
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 3 Chickens as of today.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have a Gold Lace Frizzled Polish (Mopsy), a Buff Silkie (Scout) and what we believe is a Mottled Java or Mixed breed (Pepper). When we bought the mottled Java...they said she was a Sussex...but, after getting her home we found that she has no brown on her at all and she is quite small. Sweet Sweet thing. We only started with 2 but we lost our Buff lace feather polish to what we think is a hawk so we quickly got 2 more because it was getting quite cold. I couldn't have asked for anything better, they are 2 amazingly sweet girls. I was starting to get a little jealous of all the chicken people who had sweet loving chickens because the 2 polish I started with were amazing and fun but not cuddly like the 2 new ones. The Frizzle ( Mopsy) has come around quite a bit though. She likes to make sure to steals attention now that the other 2 like me so much.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I thought that I was getting chickens for eggs, chicken manure and my kid... The eggs and manure are just a bonus. They are extremely entertaining. Each one of my chickens are uniquely different from one another. I think I like them more than I like my dogs! I would have never guessed that I would like my chickens as much as I do. Did, I say my chickens?lol I mean my kids chickens... They are super fun to watch, they keep me busy with projects... projects to help them stay safe, help them stay entertained, help me de-stress...
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, Outdoor activities, camping
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My family lives in beautiful Washington state. We have a 90 pound black Lab who is 8 (Pierce), We have a Red heeler/husky mix who is 4 (Rusty) we also have a cat named Rex he is also 8. We love to garden and landscape and spend as much time outside as possible
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Just through google search. Every time I need a question answered I seem to find my self reading through this form. I always seem to come out with satisfying answers so I keep coming back.
