Welcome to Backyard chickens David. I have to be honest and tell you that chicken wire and posts will NOT keep any predators away from your birds. The chickens themselves could fly over it easily. You really need 1/2" hardware cloth securely affixed to a wooden frame and a covered roof if you intend to keep climbers out and hawks from swooping in.

You may want to check out the coops/run sections and also the predator forum to find out how to safeguard your flock. Even family dogs have been know to massacre all the chickens . Whether the dogs are serious or just playing it still equals dead chickens.
