New from Indiana

Wow! Thank you all for the kind words and welcome.

Thank you @red horse ranch and @rjohns39 for the great advice.

As a statement of conversation about the size of the coop, I did plan for 4 sq ft per chicken inside the coop, and it will be in the range of 85-93 sq ft in the run. I haven’t begun building the frames yet, so I can easily modify the plans if need be.

As much as I can see the chicken math hitting people, we were only going to have 4 hens. Plus our yard wouldn’t accommodate for more then 6 hens without becoming a land mine field. We only have a 1/3 acre lot, but much of it is in the backyard. And we have a 1 1/2 y.o. Who likes to put ANYTHING in her mouth.

My thoughts on the Swedish flower would be purely for sentimental value... moreso a pet vs a dedicated layer, hence why I tried to find other excellent layers. I may dial the Swedish flower back to 1 and add in an additional Wyandotte. I have a farm market a short stroll from my house that will start selling day olds in March of all the chickens except the Swedish flower so I would have to possibly order that one online... but many places have a 3 minimum order.

It’s good to know that the farm market has all the feed, scratch, bedding, and other supplies I would need though.

I already know I am going to like this place, I have lurked for a few months anyways.
