Hey shellbell - you will have to let me know what store you found your supplies from. I am looking for Diatomaceous Earth and I asked the people at TSC yesterday and they looked at me like I was from another planet. So far I have only found stuff at Tractor Supply but I am looking for other places (for other options).

Yeah, my neighbors don't really know about our chickens yet...we are in city limits and I have looked up everything just to have ammo in case someone calls Animal Control (I hope not, I can't imagine) but I haven't found anything that limits us. In fact, they include "Poultry" rules along with dogs and cats. So I think we are safe!!!

Thanks for the great welcome and especially to all the Indy folks - I'm glad that there are some people around here that are raising poultry. We need spread the word! My neighbors across the street are interested, but they haven't moved forward with anything yet. My goal - to get everyone on the street with chickens and gardens!

Oh for sure!!! We have been looking for a little country store like that too! We are also on the southwest side. Please inform us!
I have been all over the internet serching for a place to get food grade DE and wifey has made about 50 phone calls today trying to track some down!

Oh and indychick TSC gave us the very same reaction!

They are retards there and don't carry a very wide selection. They are also about 5 dollars more for feed verses Fox's feeds in Camby

Schultz - Thanks for the info about Fox's feed. I have been looking at feed prices. I did notice that TSC prices seemed high on some other things I found at Waitt's feed store in Westfield, but the downside is that Waitt's didn't carry any chicken supplies. I am going to check that place out the next time I am down that way.

BTW, about the DE - have you used it before (if so, is it effective)? I've read about it but don't know anyone who has actually used it - probably because they can't find it! I'd order it online but the shipping is outrageous!

Fox's feeds doesn't carry much beside feed unfortunately. It's just a little old couple that does business out of the barn, even hand writes you a receipt. Can't beat the price of $11 and change for a 50# bag of Kent extra egg 16. I don't know of any on the northside though, sorry. There is one place we found today that carries DE but it is in Bloomington. It is called Worm's Way http://www.wormsway.com/stores/IN.asp I talked to a guy there and hed said make sure to ask for the food grade because they carry 2 kinds. We have never used it but have heard nothing but good things about it and have done quite a bit of research on the subject.
It just seems so strange that there are so many chicken keepers around here but no adequate supplier for the stuff we need!

Hey maybe all of us Indy area folks could go in together on an order of DE to save shipping costs. I found several places to order it from but the shipping is about the same price as the product and more. What do you all think??

Sounds like a plan to me. I wouldn't mind going in on that - I just wouldn't know how much to order?

I have heard of Worm's Way on the radio. You are right about the food grade DE - I think the other stuff is harmful.

If there are enough interested people - maybe we can make it work!

It depends I guess on how many people we can get in on this, we would probably need about 10 pounds. Do you want to start and Indiana thread for DE?

guess im "silly" too, ive never heard of diatomaceous earth either, had to look it up on wiki, wow! foxs feed in camby? since when n where? we get our chickens wants n needs at orchardcountrystore.
