Hello and welcome to BYC! Hardware cloth is a chicken keepers best friend. Even if you don't believe there are predators about there are always your neighbor's pets, cats, dogs, mice and snakes. Hawks even show up if they smell an easy chicken dinner. And since you are in Florida, I'd be concerned about alligators. Just MHO. Best of luck with your wee ones.
