New From MASS

Hey there all...I'm new here..born and raised on a fargum in Western Mass. and I've been relocated to the Cape...want to teach my six year old about raising some critters..figured on chickens...don't have them or a coop yet and I'm looking for suggestions..coop designs, breeds etc..going small maybe 6-8 birds.. please let me know...

from Arkansas! I have no idea where Cape is so I can't help you on that, but I hope you find what you are looking for! A nice bird to get might be cochins, they are great and good with kids (nice and calm, friendly, etc).

Some of the common backyard flock chickens are things like sex links (good layers), RIRs, barred rocks (cold hardy) and buff orps (friendly and also good-ish layers!) You could try silkies if you want broody chickens.
