Hi! We are new to chickens and to this forum. We are very excited to learn as much as we can. My 14 yr old daughter and 15 yr old son are very active members in our local 4H. They have shown our boston terriers for the last 4 years and had their first year in goats last year (my son took Reserve Grand Champion) along with a variety of crafts. This year we are "expanding" from dogs and goats to showing chickens and cats. Our chicks arrived Friday from Cackle Hatchery, unfortunately 5 died in shipping but the rest are thriving! We have a total 41 living chicks. We ordered a mixture of meat birds (not sure what type of chickens they are) and had ordered 20 silkies (5 of these died, but Cackle Hatchery had shipped a few extras so we have total of 17 silkies still). We are awaiting the arrival of our new persian. Currently she is about a month and a half old so we won't be getting her for another month and half or so.

Here's a pic of our kitty, I think we are leaning towards Ivy -

Here's a few of our pups -

Herbie and my daughter, Becky. He took Reserve in showmanship.

The boy, Billy and Mac (the black boston) they didn't do well in showmanship, as Mac doesn't believe in flash, he is more about substance. This guy excels in obedience.

Mac in the obedience ring - doing the recall. Keep in mind, he was off leash, had to sit for 3 minutes in an area where there is tons of other dogs and things going on.

Herbie in his costume. This poor dog will do anything for my daughter.

Kippy, our special little girl. She was hand raised by us. We got her when she was a day old (her mom died:(). She is our only dog that sucks on stuffed toys, and right now it has to be a certain one!

My son and his Reserve Grand Champion goat, Blake and his grandma. What a major accomplishment for first time out!

My daughter and her poor pathetic goat, Tank. This goat was a very expensive critter. He was at the vet's twice and almost died when he was little. He had an infection in his eye and we think he went blind. My daughter could have chose a different goat, but she loved her Tank since day 1. (Friend of ours owns a goat farm)

and now finally, our chicks. Kippy thinks they are here for her and since they've been here, she won't leave our dining room. She really loves them.

Chicks in a bigger box. Does anyone know what breed the one that looks like a chipmunk is?

I sure you will enjoy this site and jump over the the Michigan thread. I must warn you though that a few of the people there are crazy. Well maybe more than a few.

How'd you guess???? We actually do live in Lansing, but just bought our first home in Eaton Rapids. Hubby is busy fixing it up and hopefully we will be moving into around June/July. Right now, our little chicks are in our townhouse! Hopefully he'll have our chicken coop ready before they start crowing! Where in Eaton County are you? We thought about changing to Eaton County's fair/4H this year (after last year's goat club drama.....), but the kids wanted to show the goat kids that they aren't chicken (no pun intended;)).
