Welcome from Missouri!

Welcome Patti!! I don't know what to say about the farmer thing, I have never heard of anything like that! We always put up a sign for market animals, thanking whoever the animal came from, but that is about it. The only other difference I wanted to note, I have heard, Ingham and other counties get alot more for their market animals than Eaton county kids, but if you aren't doing market this year, then it wouldn't matter.

Another option, check out Eaton county this year and then decide. You can always show in both!! However, you can only show different species. So, you could show dogs and chickens at one and goats and cats at another or whatever.

Another side note, I think I met you at state dog show a few years ago!! Our family reunion is often on the same weekend or my daughters dog comes into heat that weekend, never fails! Anyway, couple of years ago, we were there and I was out walking her Dobe. I was wanting a boston and ran into someone with three, I think it was your family!! We now have one and are waiting on #2 (shhhh, don't tell my hubby!!) .

Anyway, welcome to BYC!! Also check out the MI thread!!

I bet it was me! I had dobes years and years ago and I do have 3 crazy pups. Aren't they a blast????? Where at Eaton Rapids are you? We are sooooooo excited and can't wait to move out there. Living in the Lansing is getting bad (especially since we've been carting our kids to Mason for school for 7 years now). We are not too far from high school. My son will want to do the market class, although he and his friends need to remember that I lined up the buyers last year and the year before via work, but since our car accident in 07, I haven't worked and the economy is extremely sucky.

Do you all have a chicken leader? Our club doesn't have one anymore so we were going to get with a friend and try to wing it. If you all do have a chicken leader, maybe we can get some advise from you all. It would be kind of cool to support each other's county:)

Small animal leader would be me!

Well, I do the paperwork stuff, my teen daughter teaches the steps to the other kids!! lol

I hear about the economy!! We live between E.R. and Charlotte but are thinking of buying something with more land and a bigger barn!!

Surprisingly, if you have the money it is amazing what is out there! Right now, we are in a townhouse in Lansing, but August we bought 1.63 acres with a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house, 2 car garage (more like 3 but the one portion is finished off like a playroom) for $40k. It's south of Plains Rd. Hubby has been working to fix it up (foreclosure).

Would you daughter mind sharing her knowledge if we need it then? That's great that she teaches the other kids. I've noticed kids learn better from other kids, and it seems like the kids in 4H really know how to work with each other.

(Oh yeah, forgot to ask - do you have any ideas on who might have a few dairy goats? Nigerian or Pygmy would be fine. Looking for at least one doe.)
