Well, I am new or rather back! I was a member here some years back. I had lots of chickens, mainly Silkies and Frizzled Cochins. My Silkie Rooster died and it broke my heart. I gave all my chickens away and concentrated on birds. Birds are my passion but, I have truly missed having chickens. There really aren’t words to describe having a chicken addiction other than they are indeed like potato chips. One is not enough. I have been “jonesing” for chickens the last two years!

The last time I ordered hatching eggs was in 2003. I broke down and bought six black Cochin chicks last Easter. We had a lot of snow and ice this last winter in NC. I lost all but two. They hatched out a baby about two weeks ago. They are doing great but, I was disappointed that only one hatched. I decided to go find my incubator only to be disappointed that mice had chewed it into swiss cheese. Luckily, a friend has loaned me an incubator to use. I’ve ordered 36 hatching eggs and I am hoping the last twelve arrive tomorrow so I can set them on Thursday.

I’ve been reading here for days. There are lots and lots of people here now! I also have discovered that I have forgotten so many things. I may be asking a lot of questions but, hopefully it will all come back to me. I do remember that my incubator was very rarely cold!

I know how you feel, I had lost a majority of my chickies to hawks and dogs.

D'Angelo N Va. :

Welcome back Stephanie, from Va. what kind of birds do you raise??

Well, I have Cockatoos, Macaws, Amazons, African Greys, Alexandrines, Ringnecks, etc... I have a lot of birds that are pets. I do breed and handfeed Parakeets, Cockatiels, Quakers, etc.. Birds are a lot like chickens and potato chips. You always have room for just one more! The Cockatoos, Macaws, and Amazons are my favs though.

As far as chickens, I have two Black Cochins that survived this last winter and their baby they just recently hatched. I am putting some blue and black Mottled and Frizzles in the incubator. I really need more than three chickens.....lol
