So the missus has been reading articles and watching videos and is overthinking her chickens. She started freaking out a little thinking we didn't have enough ventilation and one article she read said to use the fan as an exhaust fan so I went in and cut out 2 more 1'x1' vents higher up and flipped the fan around to pull air out of the coop. Now I see 4x1'x1' vents so I think we'll be good. I've got a little duct fan in there, we'll see how it holds up to dust etc.

Our prevailing winds come kind of cross wind from left to right and into the front so plenty of breeze will blow through the roof vents. I could feel the breeze coming through when I opened them up. Yes they will be covered to disperse the air and prevent drafts.

We're putting a green roof on top of this little guy too, do you think all those 4"x4"s are a little overkill? Easier not to fight with the missus.

Continuing on we buried the hardware cloth 2' back under the sod so now the coop should be well protected being totally wrapped in hardware cloth.

We used 1/4" hardware cloth for the run, the missus research tells us the small mesh will keep out snow and cut the wind so ideal for us. It too will all be buried 2' out under the sod.

Most of the run trimmed in, we're hoping it will be mink proof

We're going to use our larch to plank the outside, I think this will look really nice once it ages out a bit

As I said we borrowed the main design and tweaked it a bit for our needs. I'm not much of a carpenter but my flaws are mostly concealed.

We're building the roosts now and are looking at threads to determine the height and distances for our roosts. We're seeing a lot of different information and are having trouble trying to land on specifics.

What do people recommend for distance from the wall and height? We've seen 1.5' to 3' for height and 15" apart and we're thinking of putting 2 in at these heights. I haven't seen much about distance from the wall for the first one? Anyone?

As we're only looking at 4-6 chickens we were going with 2 nesting boxes 8" off the floor. Anyone see any problem with this?

I have my poop boards at 34" off the floor with a ramp leading up to them.
I centered the roosts 13" over the poop boards. That gives enough room for hens to duck under roosted hens without getting pecked in the head as they look for a spot on the roost.
The poop boards are 25" wide so the roosts are centered just over 1' from the wall and the edge of the poop boards.

I'd go a bit higher with the nest boxes so they can use the space under the nest boxes as floor space. Maybe set them at 18"-24" with a landing perch in front centered 8"-10" out.
