Living on the same farm my parents bought in 1957--we had chickens then (somewhere I still have the spurs from our banty rooster!) Since I retired from teaching, I've been working towards an increasingly self-sufficient life. My (city) husband of 6 years recently saw something about how commercial chickens are raised, and very suddenly decided my suggestions to start a small flock had merit--so we'll be checking out coop and pasturing arrangements. Hopefully, not only will we have eggs, but fewer ticks and flies for my 3 horses...
