Hello and thank you for all the info everyone has put into this website. I have learned a lot and of coarse am always learning more. I am always open for ideas and criticism.
I had a couple of chickens when I was about 3-4 and dont remember much, my mom always took care of them, I just played with them and they keep a eye on me. I am now a lot older and have two kids of my own and just recently decided to bug the wife and let me get a couple of chickens again, maybe 4-6 but I am not sure yet. Wife thinks I am nuts but thats not new and the kids are excited. I am hopping to teach them how to raise chickens and care for them as well as get some great fresh eggs.
Right now its mid march and still cold and snowing so I dont get to do much work out side, I have mostly been reading up on what I need and should do. As soon as I get a decent day out I will be building a small coop and run for the chickens. I do plan on making it all 4 seasons which will make it more of a permanent coop. I do have a older shed out back that I was thinking of converting but its leaking and will get replaced this summer. I do plan on let the chickens be more of a free range in my back yard during the day and there lock the up in the coop at night.
I am still trying to figure out different breeds and havent settled on one yet. Also how many, I am look towards 4-6 depending on breed. I am not worried about to much egg production, I have many family members who would take some free eggs.
Thats where I am at now and just reading and waiting before I start to build and make room for the chickens.
Thank you,
Josh
