Hi there,
My name is Darcy, I am a nurse that lives in central NY.
I currently have 14 hens, have had chickens for about 7 years now. Sadly, I live on a "farm" (dogs and chickens count, right) with an abundance of predators, so we have lost our fair share of birds. They are contained in our 3 acre fenced dog yard, in an electric chicken yard - but we have a cunning fox that leaps over (I gave chase last time and saved that hen), and lately, we've lost 1.5 hens to aerial attacks (the 0.5 loss is currently in a crate in my living room - that will be a separate post).
I currently have some volunteer breeds, Barnvelder X Golden Brahma babies. New Hampshire reds, one golden Maran, speckled Sussex and some wyndottes. I love my girls!
We also have 4 dogs, use to have turkeys and pigs but have both gone back to school, and lets face it... I'm more a pet person than a grow my own food person, so raising our food didn't go so well...
I'm excited to be part of this group and increase my knowledge base!
