Chickens seem to be drawn to decks and leave their calling cards all over. If you have a sliding door leading to the deck, that ups the attraction factor, chickens love to look in and see what the non feathered species are up to. If you ever toss them treats from the deck, they will keep coming back looking for more. Really fencing it or them off is about the only way to keep the deck clean.

X2 on that. We discovered a White Silkie rooster (that someone evidently dumped on our property this week) when he was looking in our sliding glass back door at us. )
