Hi everyone - I signed up because this group looks like fun! I had black cochin bantams as a child and loved having chickens. I am missing having some around. I am now a mom of 3 kids, 3 dogs, 2 cats and a horse (I board her), and live in a neighborhood in a large town/small city. I am interested in getting two white silkie hens as backyard pets. I am not having any luck finding anyone who raises them around here, and know I absolutely can't have a roo, as the neighbors would not want to hear him crowing. (Although I love that sound!) I will be interested in reading all about backyard chickens with this group.
Talk later, Kristy

Hi, I'm new also just joined about a week ago. I live in Henryetta and am waiting on my first bunch of chicks, they should be hatched on the 20th and here on the 22nd. (can't wait) We live in town too so no roo for us either at least until I see how noisy it all is. Our girls are going to be Ameraucana's. No children and 3 or 5 dogs. (We have 3, but my father in law lives in an apt on our property and he has 2) and we feed a stray cat. You can have a horse, but no roo? And they aren't kidding about being a talkative group on the Okie string!!!!!! Anyway welcome.

Welcome!!

I'm a newbie too. I'm enjoying BYC very much so far. There are lots of nice people who are happy to help you for any questions you might have.
I'm in Australia, reading lots of books to get ready for two chickens in my backyard. No kids yet, (it's on the way in my tummy), three dogs and cats.

I hope you enjoy BYC as much as I do!!
